LOVED this book. I loved the way the author tied history, architecture, NYC facts, poetry, and even how to live fully into a mystery for upper elementary kids. As a parent I am sure I wouldn't give that much freedom to 6, 9, and 12 year olds but when I was a kid I loved to read about a detective family (The Happy Hollisters) who solved mysteries and had much more freedom than my mom gave me. I read it for NC Elementary Battle of the Book - to write questions - and was so impressed I read it out loud to my husband on a trip to NY. He is a non-fiction reader and not a children's lit guy, but he loved it. He even asked if Maureen Sherry had other books for kids. I think the 2017-2018 Battle of the Books teams will like this one!

I enjoyed this book very much. It was well written. The characters were interesting and the poetry was easy to read and enjoy. I felt like I had a movie going on inside my head as I read this because everything was well described. It made me think of New York City in a different way and I wish I could have seen the beauty of the city back then. It was both a mystery novel and historical, but very interesting reading.
I chose to give this book 5 stars because the book was so intriguing and I could never set this book down and finding out the mystery I mean it's so hard to find books this good!!! I like how every thing turns out in this book, like there are so many turns and twists that you do not expect. I recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in mystery, I mean that's what the book is all about! ) I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Great story for 4th - 6th grade students especially who like reading books with puzzles to figure out. Along the way they will discover much about the history of NYC; it’s people, the immigrants who helped make that city and much of the country what it is today, and have a lot of fun doing it.
I don't re-read many books, but this certainly is a re-read. Love the mystery and the historical places interspersed. Cannot say enough about the mystery, the characters and how the story was woven together. Easy 5 stars! Well worth the money.
Perhaps an old-fashioned type of children's book, I found it both entertaining and educational. It was so refreshing to read a story that moved at a less frenetic pace than much of modern children's literature, which gave me time to savor the fun as I read. I imagine it would be such fun to read this book out loud to your favorite child and share discussions of it with them. I grew up in New York, not far from the city, but this book showed me I had much to learn about that great city. Highly recommended for children and lovers of YA literature!
What a great story!! I love books where the kids are smart, but real. Getting to know Brid, CJ, Patrick and Carron was a real literary treat! The kids have just moved to 5th Avenue from Brooklyn, and haven't learned how to be rich kids yet. They love a mystery, and there is a great one in their new home, which is a converted mansion of the Post family, of cereal fame. The story takes them all over New York, and they learn a lot along the way. Family is the most important thing.
I downloaded this book to my tablet quite a while ago and started to read it, but somehow it didn't grab my interest. A week ago I came across it in my library and decided to give it a read again. I am thrilled that I gave it a second chance. It is a fantastic read. I know the New York City area as I spent most of my life across the river in north Jersey and was able to see the journey in my mind's eye. Solving the puzzle with the children was very enjoyable. I recommend this book highly, even if you are 75 years old as I am.
