Where Billie? A Skeeter Hughes Newspaper Reporter Mystery A Skeeter Hughes News Reporter Mystery Book 1 edition by Judith Yates Borger Children eBooks
After a search for a new mystery novel starring a journalist as the protagonist, I stumbled upon this novel and Skeeter Hughes. Read the book. You will not be sorry! I know a good book when I look for pockets of time to sneak another paragraph or two, then find myself elated and a little sad at the end. Where's Billie was no different. In fact, I would say that this has been one of the best novels I have come across this year. Judith Yates Borger is a tight, succinct writer who knows how to keep the reader engaged and enthralled. You know what I hate in a mystery novel? Predictability. Not a problem in this one! In fact, I felt myself drug through more twists and turns by the end of the read that I was ready for more. I have already downloaded the second Skeeter novel, Whose Hand.Tags : Where's Billie?: A Skeeter Hughes, Newspaper Reporter, Mystery (A Skeeter Hughes, News Reporter, Mystery Book 1) - Kindle edition by Judith Yates Borger. Where Billie? A Skeeter Hughes Newspaper Reporter Mystery A Skeeter Hughes News Reporter Mystery Book 1 edition by Judith Yates Borger Children eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this fast-paced,believable story with sympathetic characters. It even raised my hopes and respect for good, honest investigative reporters -- if they are still out there.
This is my first book from this author;I can't wait to find more "Skeeter Hughes" books! Where's Billie is engaging, current and very honest. A young woman's adventure that was much more than she intended and shows the lengths people will go to to help each other. Skeeter is a real Mom with the real responsibilities of today's families. Hats off!
Although I've become rather weary of reporter protagonists, Berger's Skeeter is a truly interesting character. She's real, someone we can all identify with, from her troubled relationship with her husband, her efforts to succeed at her job, and her battle to get through the Minnesota weather while trying to break a story about teen-prostitution. Definitely a fun read, with plenty of plot twists along the way.
Story line was good but Skeeter character was unbelievable and appeared dumb as a brick taking stupid chances. Won't read any more of this series.
Where's Billie? is a suspenseful, well-written thriller that hooked me from the very beginning! I found myself anxiously reading on at the end of each chapter, excited to find out what would happen next. The plot is fast-paced with twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. Judith's writing makes it easy to relate to the main character, Skeeter Hughes, as a professional, mother and wife. Being from Minnesota, I also enjoyed the Minnesota references and landmarks. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. This was the first book I ever read by Judith Yates Borger and I can already tell I am a HUGE fan!!
That's how I felt about this first book by Judith Yates Borger. I'm a "johnny-come-lately" with my reading lately and now I am kicking myself because of this book! "Where's Billie?" was most definitely a great jumpstart for my summer readathon! I love the way Borger writes -- her character development and dialogue are fun and witty. I found myself both gasping in horror and laughing out loud -- this is truly a great romp! Skeeter Hughes is totally believable -- her outlook on life, career and family -- she is a dynamo and one of us! Looking forward to all of Borger's forthcoming novels with great anticipation. Also finished "Whose Hand?" last night and find myself wanting yet another one of her thrillers to read tonight! Help! I'm addicted!
As a one-time journalist who is married to a Minnesotan, this book resonated with me on two levels.
The storyline has been nicely outlined by other reviewers, so I will simply chime in to say that it is refreshing to read a well-edited ebook with only a handful of minor typos (this earns bonus points with me).
The scenario at times was a tad improbable---what is it with a journalist forgetting to charge her cell phone amidst the breaking of such a nail-biting story?
The character of Skeeter Hughes was well drawn with a combination of skills and foibles.
I found it a tightly written novel and appreciated the day-to-day journalistic encounters and admired the occasional dry wit.
