I absolutely loved this book. Honestly, it was not long enough for me, I want more Harlow. I am very weird about YA fiction, some stuff I love, some I abjectly hate, "Twilight" was not my favorite if that helps. This story was unique. There were no vampires or werewolves, yet there were definitely some Sci-Fi elements. I thought the intermingling themes of religion, punk and young love all worked well together in this story. There were definitely some horror aspects but it wasn't overboard. The scenes featuring horror added to the story instead of drowning the story in blood. The author manages to convey the horror without losing the characters or the story. This is not easy!
I thought the characters were believably naive yet hopeful in their youth and bravado, and undeniably relatable. I thought the teen-love was believable and not overwhelming. I am not a fan of most romance because I find it is seldom a realistic representation, this was not that way, plus I wanted action...not a love story and I got it! Harlow was an excellent heroine. She was tough but caring. She was strong without being hard to love and friendship. She managed to have feelings for someone without completely losing herself in it, which is refreshing. I am a fan of strong female characters and Harlow has made it onto a short list of really good ones!
I will try not to give anything away, but I have to say I hope there is more from Whitey and Harlow in the future! I want to know what the universe has in-store for Ms. Wintergreen!

The Violet Hour Whitney A Miller Books Reviews
Wow! Within the first chapter this book had me sitting straight up in bed and squealing! I'd recommend not reading before bed, because you will have trouble putting down the story and then you'll have weird, cult-influenced dreams at night!
I really enjoyed the uniqueness of Harlow's voice, and the fact that she had plenty more going on in her mind than boys (I mean, the love interest/s is/are there, but this is a girl on a mission). It's a really unique story that adds a couple spicy layers of fun on top of the YA plot line.
The Violet Hour reminded me of George Martin's Game of Thrones series with all its twists and turns. That being said, The Violet Hour is still an appropriate read for teenagers and youngsters.
I cannot wait to see what Whitney Miller writes next!
The Violet Hour is a tremendous read for any age!
The story takes you on a mystical journey, full of "curve balls", romance and wonder.
I was so enthralled that I read the book cover to cover in just 2 sittings!
Highly recommended!
I've never been big on YA but this book hooked me from the first chapter. The balance of horror, politics, religion and realistic social dynamics make for a really rich and captivating story. I highly recommend this book!
This book is one of the best. It has everything a great, have you on the edge of your seat book should have. An inventive story, adventure, horror, romance, and characters that you can really relate with. I was entranced from beginning to end. There was a great surprise ending and can't wait to read more. It is hard to find really good books that keep my interest, and this one really took the cake.
Loved it from beginning to end. Felt like the characters were people I knew. Can't wait for the next one!
This book caught my interest right away and kept me on the edge of my seat right up to the very last page. The travels to different countries and descriptions of the landmarks were great - I felt like I was right there!
Great job, Whitney! I'm so proud of you!
Recommended for fans of twisty YA, genuine female friendships, quippy dialog and delightful cover-your-eyes horror, Miller's debut about a cult-gone-crazy keeps the reader guessing. BONUS exotic setting, fresh, colorful writing peppered with humor and quirk, and a heartfelt romance—you'll definitely want to check this one out—and look forward to its spellbinding sequel.
